by, bye, buy... doh!
Sooooooo, we gonna start this escalation of crunchers eh? Let me see... I wonder how many I can fit into a 2,000 sq ft house, :p and I don't have a SWMBO here either... ;) <LOL> I *think* Max is the one that needs to step up to the plate a little closer... No SWMBO here either. I left that behind in 2004...too much MBO. LMAO It's just me and the furniture here except the kids every Weds. evening and every other weekend. Just joking of course on the 10 more quads. I could add those easily in the basement but I'd have to add another 1-2 more electrical circuits...don't want to mess with that. But there's always plenty of room in my bedroom, the dining room, along the outer wall on the floor in the upstairs hallway, etc. Space is not an issue, CPU and electrical/cooling costs are. Edit: That said, how much can I get a good octo for these days if fully ordered at Newegg and built myself? 8 cores would be sweet in one unit! Ah sheesh; I'm getting tempted now. But I had thought you could probably get an octo for less than 2 quads. I paid just under $500 for each of my quads. Although they are 2.4 Ghz, that was close to as fast as they had 9 mos. ago. (I think I saw some 2.8 Ghz but it wasn't worth the step-up in cost at the time.)
My quad MOBO's are $50. They've blown out too easily but more likely because my coolers are likely a little under-powered and a little user ignorance ![]() I mention my mobo price because do you really need to fork out $300 for a mobo for one of these screamin' octo puppies? Edit: BTW, this would ONLY be a cruncher...nothing more...just like all of my quads are now. I browse the forums and do personal stuff on my slower and older but highly competant Window's laptop and desktop. G Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2009-01-22 at 06:37 |

I suppose you could shop around, but that's the 'basic package' I got... I upgraded the PS and tossed in a nice GTX295 for gaming and tossed Vista 64 on it. :)
Rock solid components! Do not have to worry about cheap swollen capacitors and other such things burning it out. Quality... new chipset, much faster... last longer than you are willing to keep it around for the next round of upgrades in about 4 years. ![]() Do you have an electric range? If so, one pig tail and a distribution board will get you 100 amps of 120v ![]() That is, unless you use it to cook on, rather than the microware. ![]() If you don't use your Microwave, it should be on a 20 amp circuit, which is good for another 8 crunchers ![]() Last fiddled with by IronBits on 2009-01-22 at 06:45 |

If Beyond comes to the party, we are gonna need more work I think ...
I'm guessing 200 fast cores + Beyond's starving baying hounds, for Free-DC Last fiddled with by IronBits on 2009-01-22 at 15:00 |

I'll be bringing 16 fast cores to the rumble for AMD_Users.

Looks like the party is getting started already.
I think Beyond mentioned he was going to be fashionably late ![]() |
