I still remember seeing the video of a very young Princess Elizabeth pledging to serve.

Five years later she was Queen Elizabeth II.

Actually the monarchy already ended - on January 30, 1649, when Charles I was executed. The former monarchy was subsequently ruled by Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell.

Cromwell died September 3, 1658. The monarchy resumed with the Restoration in 1660. The formal coronation of Charles II was April 23, 1661.

Coincidentally, the new monarch has chosen to go by the name Charles III.

It was NOT Charles III, but Charles II. Charles the III will be the next King. (and perhaps the last one)

in some sort of the Lannisters that always pay their debts, CarlesII took care of oliver Cromwell and his sobn-in-law Henry Ireton. Oliver Cromwell was already dead, he had died of infirmity as well as his son-in-law Henry Ireton who died from the plague. But when Charles II was reinstated he decreed that Oliver would be disinterred, hanged from chains and beheaded on the twelve anniversary of Charles I beheading.

What will he be called?

He will be known as King Charles III.

That was the first decision of the new king's reign. He could have chosen from any of his four names - Charles Philip Arthur George.

Yes that may be right, but at this moment he still has not chosen a name. He will probably chose Charles in which case he will become Charles III.

Or he may chose to abdicate in favor of younger generation... (which actually, according with the Brits I know, would be the best move, people don't like him much).

Likely next year. Just possibly this year. Postage stamps may appear sooner.


The Royal Mint will not be making any more QEII currency and stamps but there is an easily adequate amount in circulation to tide us over for a year or more.
