It's an astonishing fact that the oldest people alive today were born into a world with a population less than a quarter of today's. And even back then, the number of humans inhabiting this little planet thus far has never been higher from year to year. Civilization has come such a long way, despite the myriad of possibilities to take it down one way or another.

There's a distinctively positive message that I could take away:

Abuse disappears across generations, people constrain its spread. That's a testament to the genuine dominance of good over evil in the human heart.

I may close by paraphrasing a song of Lana Del Rey: Hope is a dangerous thing for a fellow like me to have - but I have it.

Texas says you can’t have >3 shotgun shells loaded into a duck hunting shotgun, or else you’ll kill too many ducks.

Also in Texas: You can buy AR-15 assault rifles & buy large capacity magazines for maximal carnage and reload capacity to kill Uvalde school kids.

I'd rather have a classroom full of traumatised kids, than a classroom full of dead kids.

I resonate with this. I actually re-entered therapy recently to deal with the emotions caused by the actions of others thousands of km away.

We can all stand strong, and keep a stiff upper lip.

But, at some point, could we please be allowed to be a little bit emotional? And cry when it is appropriate?

Everyone is distraught that the police response to the Uvalde shooting was botched.

We think that this response is probably what can be expected.

Again, who are you going to rely on? When seconds count the police are minutes hours away. Only a delusional person would expect the police to help.
