Trump is also taking the approach in his campaign that he is stronger on Biden than COVID because he had it and survived while Biden hasn't had it. He now understands the virus better than than Biden, so he can handle the pandemic better.

Trump would prefer to get an unproven vaccine to market faster, bypassing the FDA.

In a short video released by the White House on Sunday, Trump insisted he understood the gravity of the moment. But his actions moments later, by leaving the hospital and sitting inside the SUV with others, suggested otherwise.

"This is insanity," Dr. James P. Phillips, an attending physician at Walter Reed who is a critic of Trump and his handling of the pandemic. "Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary presidential `drive-by' just now has to be quarantined for 14 days. They might get sick. They may die."

"For political theater," the doctor added. "Commanded by Trump to put their lives at risk for theater."
Grasping at straws to support his preexisting politically driven prejudice.
How do you think Trump got to the hospital? His entourage was already exposed, probably also to the person who infected Trump. But hey, don't let facts get in your way.

The president, on Sunday, took a brief trip outside the hospital to greet supporters who had gathered outside, but was criticized for the brief motorcade visit, with some saying he jeopardized the health of members of the U.S. Secret Service for a brief photo-op.
In response, White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere said in a statement that “appropriate precautions were taken in the execution of this movement to protect the President and all those supporting it, including PPE.”
He added, “The movement was cleared by the medical team as safe to do.”
But Meadows, on Monday, pushed back at those critics, saying "how do they think he got here?"
"We came here on Marine One, the U.S. Secret Service agent that is with him has been with him, and yet we took additional precautions with PPE and others to make sure they were protected," Meadows said. "A number of folks are trying to make a big deal about that when I know myself and Secret Service details are with him everyday and want him to return to the White House as expeditiously as possible."

The question is "who is in his bubble". Assuming that the same agents who flew with him on Marine One are the same who were in the vehicle in the motorcade, I can understand why this shouldn't be an issue. These agents are more likely to be his bubble than his kids are.

If 45's health holds up, it appears that all predictions were wrong. The correct answer was:

"Trump survives and claims COVID is not such a big deal, really."

Like all things 45, the muddled messaging is surreal: "Evil China gave us a virus that killed over 200,000 Americans and we need to hold them accountable, but... it's not so bad, so whatever."

"Grasping at straws to support his preexisting politically driven prejudice?" That's ascribing a motive -- you're claiming that an attending physician at Walter Reed is driven entirely by political motives, just because he's a critic of the president, rather than by his commitment to medicine. I'd say that is grasping at straws to support your politically driven prejudice. And, perhaps, that you might be unable to grasp the idea that anybody might be driven by anything other than what they might personally think of the current president.

Even the first part of the claim, that he is "grasping at straws" is a blatant lie. If the president is sick and needs to be transported to the hospital, all involved are bound to take any attendant risks. They're acting to protect the president's life.

If you cared about facts, you would know that CDC protocols dictate a 14-day quarantine for all of them. The Marines involved in the transport are following this protocol. According to this Marine Corps Times article
Quote:
Marines supporting the president as part of Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron One will be tested for COVID-19, and following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance will go into quarantine while awaiting the results, a Marine Corps official confirmed.
<snip>
"HMX-1's top priority is mission readiness and the health of its passengers and personnel," Capt. Joseph Butterfield, a spokesman for Headquarters Marine Corps, said in a Friday email.

"HMX-1 also follows CDC guidelines for monitoring the health of its personnel and routinely tests its Marines. Marines supporting the president during this time will be tested and CDC isolation protocols will be followed," he added.

The testing and isolation protocols go a bit beyond just the Marines who directly interacted with the President, Butterfield said.
So, that lot is definitely out of action for two weeks. In saying everyone in that car has to be be quarantined for fourteen days, the doctor is merely referring to the same CDC isolation protocols. (The State of Maryland also mandates isolation under the circumstances.)

Do you deny the accuracy of the doctor's statement that this was political theater?

FDA publishes vaccine guidelines opposed by White House
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration released updated safety standards Tuesday for makers of COVID-19 vaccines despite efforts by the White House to block them, clearing the way for requirements that are widely expected to prevent the introduction of a vaccine before Election Day.

Beyond exposing the rift between the White House and FDA, the delay in releasing the guidelines may have had limited practical effect.

FDA scientists have been discussing the guidelines publicly for weeks and have made clear that the recommendations have already been shared with each of the vaccine developers.
The article refers to a September 29 WAPO op-ed, 7 former FDA commissioners: The Trump administration is undermining the credibility of the FDA (my emphasis)
Quote:
<snip>
The White House has said it might try to influence the scientific standards for vaccine approval put forward by the FDA or block the agency from issuing further written guidance on its criteria for judging the safety and benefits of a potential covid-19 vaccine. This pronouncement came just after key leaders at the FDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health all publicly supported that guidance.

The White House statements came on the heels of other concerning actions that could impact the FDA's scientific standards. On Sept. 15, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar revoked the FDA's authority to establish rules for food and drug safety, instead claiming that sole authority for himself. This came in the wake of acknowledged acts of political influence on the FDA's coronavirus communications, significant misstatements by the secretary and other political leaders about the benefits of hydroxychloroquine and convalescent plasma, and the overruling of FDA scientists on the regulation of covid-19 laboratory tests. At risk is the FDA's ability to make the independent, science-based decisions that are key to combating the pandemic and so much more.

These actions are eroding the public's confidence. This month, an Axios-Ipsos poll found that 42 percent of Americans lacked trust in FDA decision-making. Although the FDA fared far better than pharmaceutical manufacturers, and the federal and state governments, it was a striking departure from previous levels of trust. Public confidence in the FDA was once much higher.
<snip>
The number of Americans who would be willing to take a coronavirus vaccine has declined sharply. The Pew Research Center recently reported that 78 percent expressed concern that the approval process will be too hasty. Only 21 percent of respondents said they would definitely take the vaccine — half the percentage that said this only four months ago.

https://www.statnews.com/2020/10/05/...with-covid-19/ "Trump’s doctor said Monday, ahead of his discharge, that there was no care being provided to the president at Walter Reed that couldn’t be done at the White House’s medical unit, as of now." Dr. Sardonicus will likely enjoy the last 2 paragraphs more.

Trump's doctor says that he has no symptoms, but doctors watching him speak can see that he has labored breathing.
