Default R.I.P. Steve Jobs

Apple says former CEO Steve Jobs has died: Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs died today, the company said in a statement. He was 56.

Just heard about SJ's passing from a coworker, sent my deepest sympathies to a couple friends at Apple. Between that and Cupertino’s briefly becoming the murder capital of California today, what a strange, sad day it’s been in Silicon Valley.

http://www.mercurynews.com/ has lots of links about both stories.

Until a few months ago I hated all things Apple on principle.
Then I watch Jobs' key note address where he showed the iPhone 4. I suddenly got the point.

Some/most/all (delete as appropriate) Apple stuff is overpriced but I now consider it, usually, the best. In design, coolness and features. We all now have iPods/iPhones here; I had had enough of MP3 players going wrong after a short while. There are a few things that annoy me though. iTunes drives me round the bend, iPhone battery life sucks and so does having to get all apps from iStore. Ironic that their 1984 commercial talked about freedom from big brother!

But Jobs was a huge innovator, and for that I will miss him. And, of course, I feel for his family and friends.
I should have seen has death coming after his resignation in August but I suppose you just get used to some people and they seem kind of 'immortal' in some strange way.

[cliche]I hope Apple can take the baton and run.[/cliche]
