Joining a team is killin' me!

I am trying to join TPR. I have read the instructions and labeled everything as instructed. One thing I suspect is that I changed userID after downloading work. My prime.ini file is as follows:
Windows95Service=1
OldUserID=
OldUserPWD=
UserPWD=tpr
UserName=RescueBoy
UserEmailAddr=fire106@charter.net
Newsletters=1
UserID=Team_Prime_Rib
And my local.ini file is set like this:
OldCpuType=11
OldCpuSpeed=2062
ComputerID=RescueBoy1
CPUHours=24
DayMemory=256
NightMemory=400
DayStartTime=450
DayEndTime=1410
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Open the client.

Go to "Test". Click on "User Information".

Go to "Your user ID". Type in "Team_Prime_Rib" with underscores without quotation marks.

Go to "Your Password". Type in "tpr" without quotation marks.

Go to "Your computer ID". Type in something like RescueBoy_1. Use an underscore to help identify you to the TPR stats engine.

Click on "OK".

Then do a manual communication using the "Advanced" menu if it doesn't do a self communicate.

Still nothing on the stats page. How often does the client report to the primenet server? I'm crunching a LL, does it have to complete before reporting? Thanks if you can help!

OK, then. Go to "Option" then "Preferences". Go down to "Days between sending new end dates" and change it to "1". This makes the client contact PrimeNet once a day. You should be on the team within 2 hours.

To force a communication, got to "Advanced" then down to "Manual communication...", check "Contact PrimeNet server now" and "Send new expected completion dates" then click OK.

If you have not figured out the password to highlight these choices, type "9876" in the password section for the "Advanced" menu.

Me again!
It says Error 17: Exponent not assigned to this computer.
I'm 25 percent thru M23420491 so I do not want to restart. Can someone use a magic wand and fix me? Thanks for the advice so far. The Error 17 label came after doing what the previous message from Outlnder said to do.

Don't worry about it. Finish the exponent and you will get credit.

Also, please post the User Information page of your client. You still haven't been added to TPR. Something has to be wrong.

The fill in part should look like this.

Have you tried this step using the Prime95 client window??

To force a communication, got to "Advanced" then down to "Manual communication...", check "Contact PrimeNet server now" and "Send new expected completion dates" then click OK.

To be able to use this function, type in "9876" where it asks for the password. The menu will close so you will need to open it up again to force the communication.

No you are not being an idiot. Handediting the ini files can sometimes cause problems. I've been using Prime95 and mprime for 2.5 years now and I still run into problems when I handedit the files.

The exponent (which by the way is 23520491 and not 23420491 as you posted above) is still assigned to RescueBoy so my guess is that the transfer has not taken place. So follow the instruction below to the letter and it should work.

1. Stop Prime95 and exit the program completely.

2. Go into prime.ini and hand edit the UserID field and the password field to their original values. i.e. Rescueboy and your old password.

3. Now restart Prime95 and force a manual communication. The exponent should update and there should not be an ERROR 17. If there is, then stop at this stage and post here.

4. If there was no error is stage 3, then while Prime95 is still running, go to the Test->User Info menu and change the value there to Team_Prime_Rib and tpr.

5. Now force a manual communication and it should work.

Remeber to handedit only in step 2 and not after that!!

I got the error 17 again. I cannot remember what I used for the initial userID. I tried a couple of my usual names and pw's but to no avail. Can the factor assignment be found on a email addy? If not, I'll just work this one thru and try to start over at the beginning of my next factor. Thanks for the help!!
