Hmmm. . . Sounds a bit like my program for Wordle. . . But, I'd have to do some tweaking. . .

One thing to watch out for is that I don't think the puzzle is using the standard wordle rules for repeated characters/digits.

I think in the normal wordle rules, if a character is repeated, you won't get more green/yellow squares for that character than there are appearances of that character in the answer. For example if you guess TATTY and the answer is THEFT, the colour pattern would be green, grey, yellow, grey, grey i.e. the 3rd T would be grey because there have already been two matches for the letter T and there are only 2 appearances of that letter in the answer.

In the example given, p = 3637 and q = 2731 give the colour pattern yellow, grey, green, yellow i.e. both appearances of 3 in the guess are coloured yellow/green, even though there is only one 3 in the answer.

That caught me out for a little while because I wasn't reproducing the results from the example.

I figure it's faster to check answers here than wait for the website to be updated, but I don't want to give any spoilers, so I'll post my answers for n = 4 and n = 6 (not the values from the puzzle):

n = 4, E = 41.47
n = 6, E = 382.24

Can anyone confirm if they get the same results? They seem a little high to me.

I can confirm the values of dg.

For n=4 I have E = 41,46748351.

For p=9173 my code yields E(p) = 45821/1061 = 43,1866 (n=4)
