Hello all. Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. Don't know a lot (well, ok anything) about Mersenne Numbers or maths in general but I am willing to learn. I have just downloaded the GIMPS software, installed and configured it and now I'm up and running. For all the Team Prime Rib fans out there, I've joined them :). Running on a AMD Athlon 1400 with 256MB DDR RAM, ABit KG7-RAID Motherboard, 80GB HD (Soon to be joined by two more!) and BTOpenworld 512K Broadband for the internet. Hope you don't mind me posting and look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome aboard! The more folks we have crunching, the faster we find that next prime 8) :D
And feel free to ask questions. Even the simple ones often stimulate interesting discussion, which is what keeps this forum fun. |

Hi there,
Thanks for the welcome! Nice to know there's friendly people around to help out if needed. I'm still getting into the swing of it but I'm sure I'll get there soon enough. |

Hello, I am a Newbie too.
I am a physics teacher and amateur programmer(from Finland), so GIMPS is very cool and finally I have an internet connection in my home so I can join the project. So, let's do this project internationally:) English language is not my best part... ;) |

PrimeX. The only Finn I have ever met was in Germany in 1984. He was a Chemist(sp) in town for a meeting. I met him at a Wine Fest where he was trying to do every table in the tent. A couple of us convinced him that he would not be able to drink his way around the tent so it was best to stay with us. We also lost the race to drink X quanity of wine with the Germans at the next table. I don't know what happened to him but I was reassured since there was a fence at the front of the tent that kept people from falling down and rolling into the river. The germans love to throw a party for no reason at all.

Speaking of Finland...
I made a forum for a few of my Finnish friends here... http://www.singlespeedforum.com/ They are real nice guys... Apparently mountain bikes are very popular in Finland... |

Very Nice:)
I think we really have very much (mountain) bikes, and in the winter skiing is very popular too. In fact I am going to ski at least 12 kilometers today. Dragongoddess: Yeah, this story is familiar:) |

Yeah but I was at that table trying to drink more than the Germans but alas we were rookies trying to outdo the pros. We also never figured out who kept sending food over to the table but it didn't matter. It soaked up some of the wine. we were drinking. We had a blast at that WineFest.
