From the "You'll have to read this to believe it, but you still won't believe it" department, is the following April 8, 2021 article in The Virginian-Pilot about a December 2020 traffic stop for DWB:
2 Windsor police officers threatened and assaulted a man during an illegal stop, lawsuit claims. And it's all on video. The video is the cops' own body-cam video... Last fiddled with by Dr Sardonicus on 2021-04-11 at 18:07 Reason: Add info |

In fairness to the police, the Skittles reference seems to be to Trayvon Martin, whose killer, George Zimmerman, was not a police officer. Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder but acquitted of all charges at trial.
OTOH a quick Google search using police gun cell phone turned up multiple cases of unarmed people being shot by police who mistook their cell phones for guns. |

Or, at least, so they claim.
That excuse doesn't work in places where guns are not freely available. Rogue cop: "I thought his cell phone was a gun, your honour, so I shot him." Judge: "Nonsense. Off to jail you go." |

Here's one that reminds me of a scene in the 1987 movie Robocop where a prototype robocop didn't quite perform up to specs, to the detriment of a volunteer. In the current AP story Video: Chicago boy wasn't holding gun when shot by officer, the shooting officer's bodycam video shows the 13-year-old victim, who had been armed, had dropped the gun and was raising his empty hands before being shot. |

I have wondered, from time to time, whether police training manuals have an analogous chapter on "Contact with Black Motorists" or "Contact with Non-White Subjects."

The jury has reached a verdict in the Derek Chauvin case. The verdict is scheduled to be read in half an hour to an hour from now.

I'm not too familiar with jury verdict-reaching time. Would it be considered short? long?

Short for something serious like this. Most likely there was strong agreement in one direction. Not the need to run through things again and multiple votes.
