Here is a list of the, at its time, largest LL test completed ever and when they were record holders:
M79299959 until 2006-12-18 by Eric Hahn M100000007 2006-12-18 -- 2009-09-06 by William Christian (StarQwest) M101100011 2009-09-06 -- 2010-02-08 by rudimeier (Serge Batalov) M150000091 2010-02-08 -- 2010-07-12 by jinydu M332197123 2010-07-12 -- until now by xorbe [Suspect LL with error code] It would be nice to know if someone has information about older record holders. |

It is probable that the next record holder will be M340705633 expected to finish on 2012-04-19 by Smok_bmv presently at 93.70%.

I
I had that number saved from a dead computer (which had ECC) and then restarted iterations from 45% done half year later on another (without ECC and with 4 threads); and not surprisingly I paid for that silly rush with an incorrect residue. Good luck to Smok_bmv (especially if he uses ECC, otherwise he may be just heating up the planet)! |

OK I am trying to get it right now:
M79299959 until 2006-12-18 by Eric Hahn M100000007 2006-12-18 -- 2009-08-27 by William Christian (StarQwest) M101001001 2009-08-27 -- 2009-09-06 by Serge Batalov [Bad LL, result uploaded to the server 2009-09-09] M101100011 2009-09-06 -- 2010-02-08 by rudimeier M150000091 2010-02-08 -- 2010-07-12 by jinydu M332197123 2010-07-12 -- until now by xorbe [Suspect LL with error code] Well I'll be gratefull for any corrections and additions. Concerning the LL test for M79299959 it should have been completed sometime between 2002-01-14 and early January 2006. Prime95 could not handle exponents that large until version 19.0 (mid 1999). ... and we have to mention jinydu who fought braveously with M100000039 which was completed on 2009-09-09 but was beaten on the finishing line both by Serge Batalov (M101001001 2009-08-27) and rudimeier (M101100011 2009-09-06).

...What effect might it have on GIMPS if this number were prime, and hence took the next EFF prize far earlier than expected? |

Why? What is the expectation time frame? And if it turns out prime then congrats to the lucky person involved, but it doesn't really affect me in any way, I didn't run the number.
Besides the prize is not really worth the effort if all someone is interested in is the money. They would have a better expected return if they buy lottery tickets instead. Edit: If the machine doesn't have ECC memory then I fully expect to see errors in the result. Last fiddled with by retina on 2012-03-12 at 10:41 |
