Maybe it wasn't a bad choice to post it in the M43 thread.

My unencrypted guess for M44 is 30402457.

There, it took you 12-13 days, plus there was probably more free CPU time around christmas (but now, we have holiday season)...
That was a different machine, Alpha box, this is an Itanium2 based system which can run faster. Less free cycles now compared to Christmas.

Tony can tweak his system with more control over it than mine so will probably beat me to it again even though he started "late".

I'm currently at 14% complete with about 8 days remaining at the current speed.

The banner no longer says "10 World Record Primes," it is now back down to 9. Perhaps George does not want to disclose anything- size, etc- until the verification comes in from Tony (as his will probably be the first one done).

Too late, we know, that it *did* say 10

*clearing the cache and reloading*

it still says 10...

You need to reload. It says 10.

It seems that there's a lack of enthusiasm about this number, compared with M43 (see the "Holy tethered cow, New Mersenne Prime" thread, and you'll get what I mean). It's just a guess, but I think the explanation for that is that this prime is smaller than M43.

edit: The amount of days needed for verification suggest that the exponent is >20M. So, the exponent is one of these numbers:

28222451
28551353
29225803

I have very serious personnal problems this time. So I cannot be as enthousiast these months as I was for M41-M42-M43. Sorry. But I'm really happy for George and the GIMPS project !

Default Verification : 1/3 done.

One third of the verification is already done. In sync with Jeff's residues.

I'm hoping that the shorter verification time is because of new hardware. :P

So from your post when verification started until now its been 41 hours, so there should be around 82 hours left, which means its finished around 8-9pm CET (2-3 pm EDT) on monday 11th?

I'm lost with CET, EDT ... But your computation is quite good: Monday 11th, about 11 pm France time. If everything's fine.
I've put in place a mail automate which sends current status to George and Guillermo every 1/2 hour. George will be able to publish the result while I am in bed !

September the 11th ...... We could see M44 event as a victory/revenge of Science over the beast.

Regards,
T.
