I tested it briefly with a Q6600@3.1 GHz. The expected completion date was June 17.

Right now it says early in the morning of the 18th, but the estimate has been steadily decreasing.

I have an archieve over primenet summary, nothing to note on April 12th between 02:00 and 03:00:
Under "Status Unproven" LL raised 1 and NOLL decreased 1. Assigned LL decreased 1 and "Available LLD" increased 1, so just like a normal finished LLtest.

It makes life fun scouring the reports and using database queries to try and guess the exponent. I agree that hiding the fact that a potential prime has been found is not necessary.

I may know someone with a 16 core unit if no one else has one that may be willing to help GIMPS out as he is something of a math nerd himself. I will send him an email.

The prime number finder wouldn't take it for so much fun if 500 people would email him/her about the exponent ^^ ...

I mean sending my friend an email. He is a manager here at a local business and so he has some say in how his machines are used.

I had browsed just for fun for 2 x 6 Core Xeon CPUs and a fitting mainboard. Around 6.000 Euro with RAM ... quite out of my league but perhaps after my lottery winning in the future. ;) ... AMD is planing to release a 16Core CPU for Q1 2011 ... you can combine 4 of them. That would be quite a nice machine to search for 100M digit primes (but I've heart that prime95 doesn't scale so well with more cpus) ... Last fiddled with by joblack on 20090605 at 01:31
