Also, this number is 10+M digits, not 100+M digits. Quote:
http://web.archive.org/web/200802080...rt_top_500_LL/ has George Woltman with 39 Attempts and 39 Successes. I'm guessing George ran (or just tricked it into accepting) the first 39 Mersenne primes that Prime95 will run (2^51, ...) to test things. Last fiddled with by MiniGeek on 20090604 at 21:08

We're just bringing you up to speed on what veterans already know. You could get the same info from finding and reading past forum threads that discussed earlier discoveries; in fact, you'd probably learn other stuff we haven't mentioned this time, so that you could begin sounding like a veteran, too! :)

If I would find a 100M digit mp I doubt that I would want to keep it a secret for such a long time ... after all the hours (and most certainly money for the electricity) I would like to collect the 'honor' ;) ... but that's only theory at the actual time. Let's enjoy the moment [ Last fiddled with by joblack on 20090604 at 22:05

Geez, this is embarrassing. What if GIMPS found a new prime and no one noticed???
I've just sent an email to the user to see if he can get the last save file. I've also emailed Scott so that he can do some detective work. No email was sent to the dozen or so interested parties in April (and yes we did actually test that code path last year). During our abbreviated beta test of v5, Scott and I didn't get a chance to discuss hiding the exponent from the many server reports. A big thanks to lycorn for noticing the huge oversight. P.S. and of course I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow morning. I'll be back on Tuesday.
