If the first status report that showed the 2nd unverified prime was
the 20:00 UTC report, then surely the time period we are interested
in examining is 19:00-20:00 UTC, not 20:00-21:00 UTC.

Awesome, fewer candidates to test! I'm going to start a run on 0x0C8D04F9148D57__ I've got a 1/7 chance of getting it right. Anyone else wanna pick some and maybe we can brute force which one is correct? :)

We should probably also consider any first-time results returned in the
few minutes after 20:00 UTC. So I would suggest that the
candidates are:

Code:

There is the fake residue!

[edit]Kills the theory about putting fakes on smaller numbers (unless the code has been changed in the last few days). A frustrating lack of information to go on![/edit]
I don't think that is the fake. The first four digits (1248) are right if it were the known fake but the 5th digit should be 0, not 1.

I've looked for a fake but didn't find one.

Likewise. I checked all the returned results from Sept. 6 and
didn't see a residue agreeing with the "fake it" algorithm listed in
another thread.

Can somebody rename this thread to something like "Holy Lucas&Lehmer - New Mersenne prime AGAIN?"

Edit: This should be the first time ever that the server is (was) reporting "Prime, UNVERIFIED: 2"

How do you figure that? Aren't all tests independent events?
