There is an Octal-DDR4 (two slots per channel, quad channel) setup I have. The board was not allowing all eight slots populated for a while now (this is an error I had for at least three AsRock mainboards of different kinds now). I had it configured ||X| CPU |X|| (where | is an unopopulated slot and X is populated) for a long time to have it running in some basic way (it was running in dual channel), but when 30.8 had its first versions, I tried hard to get more memory into this machine. It was able to run ||XX CPU XX||, which only has half the channels active, but at least half the slots filled, which was not doable with the approved configuration X|X| CPU |X|X.

Today, I wanted to restart the system with somewhat slower DIMMs. The faster DIMMs will go into my new build (11700K, I am really thankful to the benchmark thread because otherwise I would have bought a 10700((K)F), but 11th Gen seems to be much faster for smaller FFTs). When I turned the system on again, it only showed up a single DIMM. Really bad! After trying for around an hour, I got to |X|X CPU |X|X which is the only permutation that will work for four sticks now (independent of DDR clocks): After having a lot of triple module configurations defaulting back to single channel DDR4, this was able to achieve quad channel DDR4 (albeit the normal quad channel configartion would be X|X| CPU |X|X). My work units are now around 20-30 % faster! That's some labour that unexpectedly turned out suprisingly useful!

I am back f3rom hospital, typin4g one haǹded. Most of the fingers on my left hand are still present and correct.

That begs for further details. I have had a stint of several weeks confined to 1 handed typing. Surgery was involved.

Nice! I have been in that part of the country twice, but didn't go to many of those places. Been to Arches, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon (north rim), Yosemite, Hoover Dam, Monument Valley, Four Corners, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Sequoia, King's Canyon, and Zion (not in that order). I doubt I could convince my wife to drive that far again although we do intend to drive the entirety of Route 66 since it starts less than two hours from where we live. Our last trip down to that part of the country was about 6800 miles in 18 days.

Only the 13" one, but I now have the opportunity to port software to it. Some of that will be easy, but some of that will be hard.
