Current GigaFLOPS is over 85000! Typically this sits at ~40000.

Was there an interruption on the server side this morning? Hope all is well with the challenge.

Sunday night - now at over 102800 GigaFLOPS!

Yes, the server went down last night for a few hours while I slept. The PHP memory heap manager zend_mm_heap became corrupted and took down the web server. First time I've seen that error. Apache tried a graceful restart but failed because the disks were slow at the time.

All the results processing scripts are off and will remain so until after the challenge. The server can't handle the additional load. The work generator is on but I'm handing out mostly 5f tasks to lighten the load on the database. The code that balances the number of each type adds too much overhead right now.

There’s still such tremendous amount of data queued in progress. Pity you had to pause the other apps but this was the only way out of the server first situation.

I can only repeat, what I already posted: https://www.rechenkraft.net/wiki/Ben...cserver_Tuning

The main problem is too much disk IO which leads to 100% disk busy. Check utilization with "iostat -xtcz 2".
And this is mainly caused by the database. How to reduce this drastically is described in above link.

it’s not fair to change any rules during the challenge but I believe Greg will look into your link. Now it’s just wait and maybe think about requesting some donations for a better and faster server aligned with yoyo’s recommendations.

Some things are save to change also during a challange.
E.g.
- min_sendwork_interval, which is 7s. Many many people run update scripts, which request an server update every 7s. So change this to e.g. 10 minutes.
- assimilate results fast and delete them from BOINC db very fast can also be done during a challenge and reduces db size and with this disk IO.

The results processing scripts are back on and caught up.
