Default How to limit the exp range on one of my CPUs

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me with this:

I'd like to limit the range of exponents for the LL test on one of my CPUs to the 40-50mil range, and keep the 70-80mil range for the other CPU.

It is possible to set anywhere in my account or the clients on the given PCs?

Thank you

In your working directory there is a file called prime.txt

That file should have a line in it that says something like:

Code:
WorkPreference=0
Here "0" means "whatever makes the most sense".

You could change it to 100 if you want to do first-time LL tests in the 70M range, or change it to 101 if you want to do double-checking LL tests in the 40M range.

Normally, the WorkPreference line (and all other lines) apply globally to all the CPUs on your machine. However, at the bottom of the prime.txt file, you probably have lines that look like:

Code:
[Worker #1]

[Worker #2]
That is the place you can put configuration information that you want to apply only to one CPU but not another. So you could try:

Code:
[Worker #1]
WorkPreference=100

[Worker #2]
WorkPreference=101
Disclaimer: I have not actually tried this.

Note: the above assumes only two cores. If each of your CPUs has multiple cores then you will need to modify it. Your local.txt file will presumably have lines similar to:

Code:
WorkerThreads=2
ThreadsPerTest=1
If the number of WorkerThreads is actually more than 2, then you would need to make the corresponding change in your prime.txt file.

You can also change the work preference for you CPUs at http://www.mersenne.org/cpus/
