Tomorrow we'll see the start of the much debated football worldcup in Qatar.
I noticed before that interest in football in this forum is limited; nonetheway I'ld like to encourage you all to put your bets here. My daring guess is that Portugal will make it (despite Cristiano Ronaldo). My second favorites are France and Argentina. Third row: Spain, Germany, Brazil. Another possible question would be: who is going to watch it? A lot of people I know that used to have great interest in world championships in soccer/football now boycott even watching it.

Who cares?
There have been too many world cups recently. Women's Rugby Union Men's Twenty20 Cricket Men's Rugby League Women's Rugby League Wheelchair Rugby League to name but a few. The fact that your country may not have participated is irrelevant. |

Despite what FIFA have said about human rights in The West over the last 3 millennia, Qatar's record on anything that is not totally male dominance and workers' safety is atrocious. I guess bribery and corruption are the orders of the day with the not so squeaky clean FIFA attitude towards genuine soccer fans.

Qatar will win. World Cup? No, this is the Sportswashing Olympics.
EDIT: And indeed, all Qatar can possibly win is a thorough sportswashing. For the first time in World Cup history, the host team lost its opening match. It seems that the host team's performance in its 2-0 loss to Ecuador was a national embarrassment. Last fiddled with by Dr Sardonicus on 2022-11-21 at 13:15 Reason: as indicated |

Germany will beat England on penalties, though whether in the final is open to question..
That is the traditional result. |

Indeed! I was visiting my back doctor today (L3 and L5 are semi-herniated), and he said "are you following the cup?
Me: "What cup? Dr.: "The world cup. Dude... I don't have time to live vicariously through others. I'm seriously busy with my own stuff. Please fix my back, so I can work. |
