Default GNU Octave

Just wondering if anyone came across this software with regards to data visualization.
https://octave.org/

Scientific Programming Language

Powerful mathematics-oriented syntax with built-in 2D/3D plotting and visualization tools
Free software, runs on GNU/Linux, macOS, BSD, and Microsoft Windows
Drop-in compatible with many Matlab scripts

Came across it many years ago when I was provided with a Matlab script. Unfortunately, it was not sufficiently compatible back then.

Time I took another look.

I've used Octave occasionally over the years. For simple matlab scripts it works fine, but very often matlab versions of a particular function will work on data types or in situations that Octave doesn't support with the same function. Also the matlab GUI is really nice and Octave's is considerably less so.

Matlab has grown over the years into an enormous ecosystem of tools and libraries, and it's not realistic that a free alternative be fully compatible with that.

Octave was used as a learning language in one or two courses in Coursera. Very clearly because the presenter was versed in matlab but couldn't use it in the course because the virtual students could have been anywhere in the world. (In a brick and mortar college, they usually get a site deal.)
So it worked just fine, but it did look as if the professor had to adapt their scripts while preparing the course.

(and last time I'd used it was 7-8 years ago.)
