Hardy is number 10 on the Original Post
Russell is a good choice.

Once a full list is established, I suggest series of polls. (This assumes using the forums poll capability) Round 1: lists of 10 each, multi-vote. Top 3 from each list move on to the next round. Repeat as needed until a final round of say 5, single vote.

Not using the forum's in built polls, a google for could be used to do ranked voting on the lists of 10 and the final round.

Agreed on Abel.

Mentioning Hendrik Lenstra feels like a bit of mersenneforum bias creeping in? Many would place his LLL coauthor László Lovász above him.

There are literally hundred of Craters Rimae and other features in the Moon named after mathematicians. For a sample a button is enough. Of course living mathematicians will probably have to wait about 50 years to be immortalized like Erwin Schrödinger.

By the way, Hypatia has both a Crater and a Rimae named after her LOL

Of these I had only heard of Babbage Bacon Bernoulli Jacob/Johan Bessel Bohr Boltzmann Boole Boyle Briggs and Buffon (but mostly in other fields like physics, Astronomy)

Last fiddled with by rudy235 on 2022-01-22 at 21:17 Reason: Bohr Niels

Brouwer and Borel have their names on interesting results, ideas.

Last fiddled with by masser on 2022-01-22 at 21:11 Reason: Birkhoff too.

We could try writing the list in a Möbius loop. That way it would never reach an end!

If Turing is in the list, I fear we may never halt when computing the poll.
