Default Strange Computer Behavior

Can anyone explain this?

Just a few hours ago, my sister's computer was happily running Prime95. But when I went to check on it moments ago, the power was off. I pushed the power-on button, but nothing happened. Nothing like this has occured as far back as I can remember. The computer was still hot (probably from its Prime95 calculations), although it was cooling gradually.

Try disconnecting the power cord for a while, and then replugging it.

Open up the case to allow it to cool faster. Was it overclocked? I know that my computer screws up the second I continue prime95 when it's overclocked (thank goodness it resets to default on reset).

Not overclocked. I tried disconnecting it from the power cable, then reconnecting. It didn't work.

My sister's electronic clock, radio and some of her lights are also out. But there was no lightning storm and the computer I'm using now is working just fine (otherwise I couldn't be posting these messages).

Check power strips and fuses/circut breakers. Maybe her hairdryer pushed it over the limit.

I suspect it does have something to do with the power supply. Most of the electrical devices in my parents' room are also down. But I have no idea how to fix it. I'm only 16 years old...

Fortunately, the 3.055 GHz computer I'm using right now is still working just fine, while my sister's computer is only 851 MHz, so the main GIMPS engine in my home is still running.

(What a weak consolation...)

My dad came home and fixed the problem in less than 2 minutes...

Have you followed what he has done so you can do it by yourself the next time?

He just flipped a few black switches, and it was working again immediately!
