Given NPLB's new recent surge in interest and the 1468 and 9000 drives nearing completion I'd like to discuss ideas for new drives:
- A "flagship" drive with 1 k value with the goal of taking it as far as possible, n=4M, 5M, 6M+ ranges. We could eighter use k=301 (to stay true to the roots of what ranges NPLB has tested historically), or use a smaller "k" to minimize FFT sizes (I have a few k values I have reserved I could 'donate': k=55). This drive would find large megaprimes that would stay on the top5000 for years to come. - The natural continuation of extending the k=300-350 1468 drive with a new N= 3-4M drive. Maybe this could be split into 2 drives one that tests all N below megaprime range and another "megaprime drive" for n= 3.32M-4M. - What about the k=350-400 range? Is this range planned to stay untested for individual reservations? The untested candidates could be used for a drive. |

I had planned to post this by this weekend: Announcing drive #16. We will be searching k=350-400 for n=2M-3M. Individual reservations will be available for k=300-350 for n>3M.
What this does is continue to fill in k-range holes that would otherwise "be left behind". The drive will run on port 1468 like the current drive #15. The port will be loaded with k=350-400 for n=2M-2.5M about a day before k=300-350 is complete to n=3M. In other words, the ranges of k=300-350 and k=350-400 will be flip-flopped. When k=350-400 is close to completing to n=3M, we could combine all of k=300-400 for n>3M into one bigger drive. But that is a long way off and we can discuss as it gets closer. As for the 13th drive running k=400-600 on port 9000. It will likely be 1-3 months yet before it is done to n=2M. We will start a new drive for the same k-range and n=2M-3M. Port 9000 will continue to be loaded up in n=100K ranges like it is now. So as we near n=2M, n=2M-2.1M will be loaded into port 9000. In the mean time n=1.9M-2M will be loaded into port 9000 when we get close to n=1.9M. |

What are your thoughts on another drive focusing specifically on 1 k to find large megaprimes?

I have one spare PRPnet port that I could use for it. Port 1400. It would be an informal drive and so it would not be reflected on the stats pages but we could have an unstickied thread for it. We could start with k=301 for n=3M-5M. When that is done we can progress to k=303 for n=3M-5M, etc. We could change some of the parameters of the drive as we progress and see how popular it is. Does that sound reasonable? |

Sounds good for me. Will be there with one of my machines. But maybe its possible to add server at the status report (http://www.noprimeleftbehind.net/prpnet/). That would be great.

Could it be set up as a mini drive?
