Reviving a Samsung 226BW monitor

My partner's monitor recently started flashing like a disco strobe light for several minutes on start up. Just searching "samsung monitor flashing" turned up this:

The story is, basically, that caps in the power supply had gone bad.

A bit more searching found a supplier I could get to in the Chicago suburbs (28 mile round trip). I ran out there and got the three capacitors (only two were bulging, but the advice was to replace them all.

Even my rusty soldering skills were adequate to get the new parts in. If anyone has problems with Samsung monitors (there are other models with this), it only cost me $7.75, $3.00 in tolls, plus gas.

EDIT: I DID up the voltage ratings from 25V to 35V in the two which failed, and 50V on the other (couldn't get 35V on that one.) Stories I've heard suggest that electrolytic capacitors which are run over their voltage ratings can fail in more spectacular fashion than I saw here (that is, smoke and flames, not just bulging.)

Several years ago at my workplace we had a bunch of Dell branded 19 inch monitors go bad at nearly the same time. they run 24/7 so probably within a couple hundred hours 14/60 monitors failed. Every single one was a failure of Taiwanese Caps.

We offered to repair them but our company opted to buy all new ones. A couple dollars and some basic soldering skills and everyone gets a monitor.

I've thrown away the packaging, so I don't know the origin of the replacements. (I could look it up.) I did specify high temp (105C) and raise the voltage rating.
