After playing around a bit more, I've found that on my i5 6600 systems with DDR4-2133, a single worker delivers more throughput than two.
I suspect that may be due to the relatively small 6 MB of L3 cache. |

The difference in throughput was not that great: less than 1%. Running a single worker has another advantage: managing the many worktodo.txt files is easier. |
