For 2020: R3 to n=100000 and S3 to n=50000.
These will require more manual work as the candidates after sieving are tested too quickly to be used with PRPNet or BOINC. R3 on a local PRPNet server would be interesting... |

Yes congrats to all searchers for accomplishing all goals in post #1! ![]() Still a little ways to go on the primes goals in post #2. :-) 1st goal for next year will be to search all bases with 2 k's remaining (at n=200K) to n>= 300K. (There are already quite a few bases with 3-5 k's remaining at n=300K so this is a "hole" in our search depths.) That would be an area to look at. Ian and I are currently working on some of those right now. There are a lot of them on both sides. They should produce quite a few more 1 k bases. |

Gary doesn't tell me what number I should factor next, because it's not a project he contributes to; he has no stake in the progress of factorization tables, so he keeps his nose out of my business. He's asking you to keep your nose out of his business, because you (1) don't contribute, and (2) don't appear to have any idea how much work your suggestions would take. #2 is what annoys me, personally, about your "suggestions". When I began around here, my post-to-computation ratio was pretty high also (in the "talks too much" direction, I mean). For projects I had strong interest in, I put machines to work getting progress done, so that I could express an opinion that others might care to respect. Please, consider doing the same. Put your CPUs where your mouth is and gain an appreciation for how long it takes to do *meaningful* work, or butt out. To your specific suggestion quoted here, take one of those bases below 500 with 1 k left, sieve for a couple days to see how many candidates would be left to get it to n=1M, and then estimate how long it would take *YOU* to get that *one* base to 1M. Please, don't reserve the base; Gary won't believe you'll ever finish it anyway. If you show your calculations and then ask to reserve one base, maybe someone might believe you are willing to do actual work instead of acting like the annoying little brother. (apologies to Gary if I'm mistaken here) |

The #2 goal for 2020 will be to search all bases with <= 8 k's remaining (at n=100K) to n>=200K. There will of course be others besides this one and the aforementioned one to get all 2k bases (at n=200K) to n>=300K. But these will be the two main goals. I'm mulling over some of the previous suggestions by contributors. The idea is to make them tough but mostly attainable within a year.
