Default holy tethered cow! new Mersenne prime? (M43-related)

Check the PrimeNet status page.

Recently, I had an extremely strong sixth-sense feeling that we would find something good soon. Something just kept driving me to check the PrimeNet status page obsessively for some reason. :)

Could this be the fabled 10M digit prime at last?

I hope not
it will spoil part of the fun....
By the way, GP2 used to do a great job in analyzing data to point to the number. Is someone taking up the challenge ?

Fingers crossed.

I had a feeling in my water these last few weeks that RieselSieve was just about to drop a new prime (it is time, I'm sure). It appears I was very wrong!

Not counting chickens, but verification should occur before the new year, almost certainly, I'd have thought. 2 in a year hasn't happened since 1996, when GIMPS took its first prime, topping Slowinski & Gage.

We can't until the official announcement - unless there's some kind of blooper again...

What do you mean with "blooper" ? I don't speak and read English perfectly and Italian translators for "blooper" say "blooper" , they don't help much ..

A colloquial term for a comical mistake. GIMPS has had machines report an assignment as prime but for which the verification run didn't work. Each time Prime95 gets more changes to avoid false alarms. I suspect the waiting is much worse on the machine's owner than the rest of us :)
