Also on November 5:

1872 Susan B. Anthony votes (illegally) for Ulysses S. Grant in the Presidential election. Fined $100.00 (never paid fine).

1940 Franklin D. Roosevelt re-elected to a third term of office.

1941 The Combined Japanese Fleet receive Top-Secret Order No. 1 (Attack on Pearl Harbor, the Philippines, etc.)

Default First commercial microprocessor hits the market

50 years ago on Nov 10, 1971 Intel announced via an ad the availability of the 4004 microprocessor.
The attached link shows the ad, discusses the "first" claim, but best of all is the enclosed table that compares
the specs of the 4004 with an I9-12900K.

Thanks for sharing this. It is a very enjoyable read.

Most people have no idea just how good they have it (at least, with regards to Compute).

Friday, November 22, 1963

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, President of the United States, was assassinated.

EDIT: November 22 is also the Feast of Saint Cecilia. I don't know when or why November 22 was chosen as the day, but the feast day apparently has been celebrated since the Fourth Century.

Cecilia is the patron saint of music and musicians; also of blindness. Her sainthood predates the process of "canonization."

On Wednesday, November 24, 1971, a man going by the name "Dan Cooper" AKA "D. B. Cooper" hijacked a flight from Portland to Seattle, ultimately parachuting from the 727 at 10,000 feet in a thunderstorm with $200,000 in cash.

Neither he nor most of the $200,000 was ever found, nor was his identity ever established. In 1980, $5800 in $20 bills with serial numbers matching part of the $200,000 was recovered along the Columbia River near Vancouver, Washington.

99 years ago on this day, November 26, 1922, archeologist Howard Carter made a tiny hole in a stone door of a site he was excavating with Lord Carnarvon and saw "wonderful things". It was the mostly unplundered tomb of Tutankhanum who died about 3245 years ago.

Steve Martin was mighty impressed with the artifacts also:

And they decided to celebrate in style!

Barbados bids farewell to British monarchy, becomes republic
Quote:
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - Barbados stopped pledging allegiance to Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday as it shed another vestige of its colonial past and became a republic for the first time in history.
<snip>
Barbados became independent from the United Kingdom in November 1966, more than three centuries after English settlers arrived and turned the island into a wealthy sugar colony based on the work of hundreds of thousands of African slaves.
<snip>
As the ceremony ended, officials lowered the Queen's royal standard for the last time in Barbados. In a statement, Queen Elizabeth II congratulated the island for its "momentous day," and said she looked forward to an ongoing friendship between the two nations.

Indeed we did!!!

It was very interesting observing the reporting on this on BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC.ca) video news feeds. Very little "signal"; lots of pretty pictures.

Linda and I watched the ceremony by way of the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC.bb) in real-time. An important moment in our history!

Please forgive me for geeking out on this, but... This is a *serious* step. Lots of legal dimensions to this, to be "worked"...

Sometimes it makes sense to "press the reset button".

Also, IMHO, Mottley is a genius!
