Yes, but surely more likely is that someone will turn up with an old file from 1999 to add to the archive and then the naming system will mean that the files don't appear in the correct order.

I still think four digit years are the way to go.

Hey Xyzzy,

Can you put a seperate directory with just the summary.txt files as they are considerably smaller and gives the general info I usually want to look at? That way I can pick out files and not burden the server.

Are we sticking with the MS Windoze 64-bit edition? If so, could a web server be set up on the Opteron so the archives are available again?

Hmm... I take it, after 2 months, that we're sticking with Windoze. Can the data archives be made available again through e.g. Apache for Windows?

Sorry, been real busy...

At this point I don't know what George's long term plans are for the box...

The problem with setting something like this up is 1) It can potentially eat up a connection's bandwidth 2) It uses a lot of disk space and 3) It requires someone to take care of it...

Finding a solution that is long term and satisfies those conditions is not easy...

To be honest, on my list of things to do, which gets longer every day, this is near the bottom...

If someone wants to take this mission please contact me and I'll assist in any way possible...

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllll... I have been planning to network the house this summer, meaning that the PCs running 24/7 in the basement will be connected to a nice fast broadband connection. The only problem would really be space; I think that the computer I would install it on has a 30GB HDD, which by my calculations would only last about a year and a half, not even counting the space the OS and other software takes up. So a bigger one would obviously be needed. If you could write a script to automatically download and bzip the files I would appreciate it as my current plans for the summer are extremely busy; it has to be for Windows since I have no experience with Linux.
