Default Previous Primenet Transitions?

Judging by the name v4, I would think there were 3 previous primenet transitions. Any memories from those, and how the older versions were?

I just found this page: http://www.mersenne.org/webarchive/

Primenet v3 apparently started in 1998. v2 was around in 1997, strange how it talks about installing Primenet. Nothing about a v1.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know where to get the PrimeNet source code? The links on that page don't work.
