Longer-term plans?

I've updated the Web page at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~twomack/nfsnet.html though I notice that I've missed out some open-brackets, and I won't be able to fix that until this evening because I don't have the ssh-key for that system on my work machine.

I presume somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of the relations are now coming from lattice sieving of which I have no visibility, since I was seeing around 1M relations per day on 10,239+ but the hundred million relations needed accumulated in much less than 100 days; I'm seeing around 600k relations per day on 12,227+.

Is there a planned number after 12,227+ ? 7,268+ and 6,298+ are the other two most-wanted, and small enough to be perhaps more suited for a well-equipped individual (Silverman, Sean Irvine, xilman, me ...) than for nfsnet.

I am about 90% done with the sieving for 2,776+. It is progressing more
slowly than I hoped, because I've been shut down for the last two
weekends (electrical shutdown to do power system maintenance) and may
be down again this weekend. Weekends are my most productive time.


After 2,776+, I plan on doing a couple of easier numbers (2,1068+, 2,1089-)
and then perhaps 2,1538M, although I could be persuaded to do 7,268+
or 6,298+ instead.

On any given night, I only have about 15 cores running. I would not
consider myself "well equipped" in terms of hardware.

Sam sounds impatient, and proposes the two you mention plus 2,271-
for NFSNET's next three. Last I heard, Richard and Greg were considering
adopting these.

On the update, the sizes of the factors found seems to me to be part of
our project (in addition to setting sieving benchmarks). The ecm test has
gone up since the two p54's. -Bruce

I presume 2,271- is a typo for 7,271- there: I pondered 12,271-, but that's nearly a kilobit.
