This BBC story got my attention:

Russian state broadcaster RT has suspended and condemned one of its top presenters, Anton Krasovsky, after he called for the burning and drowning of Ukrainian children.

RT news is staunchly pro-Kremlin.

In the interview Krasovsky smirked as he said "just drown those children, drown them". Alternatively, he said, they could be shoved into huts and burned.

He also joked about Russian soldiers raping Ukrainian grandmothers.

The folks at RT were shocked - shocked! - that one of their top presenters would say such a thing. On the air, anyway.

Russia's Investigative Committee, which handles serious crimes, is now investigating Krasovsky's comments, though it is not yet clear what Russian law, if any, he may have violated.

On Monday Krasovsky apologised, saying "well, it happens: you're on air, you get carried away, and you can't stop".

This particular person has a very sad yet predictable arch over the last decade. He previously worked at Kommersant, Yandex, Nezavisimaya Gazeta and Vogue. He was frequently heard on Echo of Moscow (a station that is now banned for > 1/2 year). I have seen his metamorphosis over years; heard his interviews quite a number of times (I used to listen to that radio while working, both before and after the '14 affair). He was morphing.

Ten years ago he was an avid and passionate ultra-liberal ...but slowly crossed over to the well-paid propagandist side (was recruited by RT, where a score of cringeworthy propagandists is present, and appears to have decided to best them all) and got over-intoxicated by "everything is allowed when you are working for kremlin" attitude. And there, slipped several times (he had similar rhetoric before and no signals were given to him) and this time just behaved like a complete criminal. They will make an exemplar crucifiction for his career, and they will carry on exactly the same.

As an aside, for those who don't know Russian language it is perhaps very hard to imagine let alone believe how exactly awful, crude and effective the modern Russian propaganda machine has become. It defies imagination, it defies logic. And it works. It is a huge subject for the future researchers. Krasovsky does not really stand out from (I could name half a dozen) similar figures. If you want to feel your blood boil, listen to Lavrov (easiest to find - because he is not on blocked channels; he speaks at U.N. but don't be fooled: he is not the Foreign Minister; he is a propagandist now, solely. His speeches are simply addressed back to the inhabitants of Russia).

Beyond his morphing, did Russia remove any info pertaining to his coming out and opposition against anti-gay laws 10 years ago? Or do people just don't care about cognitive dissonance?

When Putin began his special military disaster, the stated aim was "de-Nazification" of Ukraine. Now, eight months in, that aim must have been achieved, because now the call is for "de-Satanization" of Ukraine.

It would go a long way toward achieving that aim if Russia's military and Yevgeniy Prigozhin's mercenaries would all go home.

They're also, unfortunately, well on the way to the unstated underlying goal of depopulating Ukraine of Ukrainians. Mass emigration and mass graves.

Not going to happen until:

1) Ukraine publically admits it will never join NATO.
2) Ukraine transfers all sovereignty of Crimea to Russia.
3) The US (Biden) stops laundering money through Ukraine.
4) The Russians obliterate Ukraine's homeland.

Of course, this "invasion" will stop should some stupid Russian soldier accidentally detonate a nuke somewhere.

The recent (re)focus on religion are a sign Russia is more and more helpless. As is the claim Ukrainians want to use a dirty bomb.

Russian Troops Baptized in Body Bags as Moscow Pivots to ‘De-Satanization’ of Ukraine

Viktor Ivanov, a priest for the Russian Orthodox Church in Ufa, detailed his excursion into the so-called "special military operation" zone on social media, sharing photos of a baptism that were likely intended as an uplifting PR effort but came off more as a vote of no-confidence.

While visiting Russian positions on the front line, he wrote, "A strong man approached. … Modestly, as if embarrassed, he looks at me and timidly asks: 'Father, our fighter wanted to be baptized. Is that possible to do?'"

Ivanov said he sprung into action after realizing there may not be another chance to perform the baptism, asking the troops to search for a basin to fill with water.

But "not a single basin was found," he said. Instead, the troops found him polyethylene bags - the black ones meant for the bodies of the dead. And then the "long-awaited" baptism was able to go ahead and the soldier's eyes lit up in recognition of the "great event," Ivanov wrote.
