Prime95 interfering with Google Chrome

Hi, everyone.

At some point in the last day, I started running into this issue of Prime95 seriously affecting Google Chrome. Frame rate on videos was terrible even if the GPU was free. Switching to and from full screen on videos takes several seconds (the window disappears and shows my desktop while the next one tries to pop up). Anything I type in the address bar takes 3-5 seconds to appear and the keystrokes occasionally appear out of order once they do all pop up. All other programs appear to behave normally. I'll check how more graphically intensive applications perform in a little while.

I didn't really suspect Prime95 because it has been running at 100% in the background for a long time and hasn't caused any issues, but as soon as I stop one worker, all my problems disappear.

When I have a bit more time, I'll try a more demanding program to see if this is purely Google Chrome or not. I'll also run some stress tests to see if everything it still okay. Benchmarks don't seem off in any way (~20% slowdown once all four cores are engaged).

Switching between tabs takes a moment, and so does scrolling. I have confirmed that only Chrome is affected. Four workers + Idle GPU = Chrome unusable but Four workers + GPU running mfakct @ medium = LoL perfectly fine.

I checked out that article. It's very interesting that it was released yesterday i.e. when my issues started cropping up. However, I don't know if any changes were made that would affect me.

EDIT: Now that I read it perhaps it has had an effect after all. I don't know how to manually reverse the change, though, to see if that would sort thigns out.

Are you on a laptop or desktop? What is the OS? Are your power settings for multimedia or display set for 'balanced', 'power save', or 'high performance'?

Desktop. Windows 7 home premium 64-bit. Display adapter is a GTX 670. I don't know that I've ever "set" a balanced / performance / power saver.

I was thinking maybe it was a power settings, but it's more likely just the browser itself. Older versions of chrome can be downloaded at http://www.filehippo.com/download_google_chrome/history if you want to test. I assume it has a way to turn off auto updates too.
