What's wrong with simply suggesting search parameters in a post? I believe most users here are perfectly capable of calling up their favorite search engine and copy-pasting in the search parameters.

Nothing. My objection is to the type of hyperlink that I quoted, directing everyone to use one particular corporation.

It was a "mobile home". Their structures are known not to do well in windstorms.

People did not know it was coming so they did not have time to take shelter or get out of its path. It was believed the funnel was over a mile wide at the base.

The tornados in Brandenburg, KY, and Xenia, OH, on April 3, 1974 were F5's. The same storm cell produced an F3 in my community, Jefferson Co. IN. (Hanover, IN, and Madison, IN). Several years ago, a personality on TWC said an EF5 is not survivable unless a person is in an underground shelter, or can get out of the way.

You beat me to it!

I thought it was a mobile home based first on the shape and size, but wasn't certain. Instead of trying to track down the original source of the picture, I should have looked more critically at the picture itself.

Your use of the word "structures" pointed me in the right direction. If you look at the roofing trusses that are exposed to plain sight, you'll see that they're much smaller and flimsier than those used in houses.

Greensburg, Kansas. May 4, 2007. A community of less than 1,000 people was scrubbed to the ground by an F5 tornado. There were 11 fatalities. Very little was salvageable. This event drew a lot of national attention. Bush 43 went there to see for himself.

The town was rebuilt utilizing as much renewable energy as there was available It is considered a model "green" community. The link above is to the community website. A short video on the front page shows how far they have come since.

Near Birmingham, AL, yesterday afternoon. There were 5 fatalities in the state.

Hurricane Ida made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It was smaller but more intense than Katrina.

It absolutely smashed the power grid in the New Orleans area. A major transmission tower with eight lines collapsed into the Mississippi River. That tower had survived Katrina.

With only backup generators, keeping drainage and sewage pumps going will be a major challenge. Keeping any hospitals left intact going will also be a concern.

Ida also destroyed the building that had once been the Karnofsky Tailor Shop, which had been a second home for Louis Armstrong, and was on the National Register of Historic Places.
