Default Discussion about dates

Please note that for us in the Eurozone it looks like you are having a month-long rally!

Oddball,

With one of our first few rallies at NPLB, we had the same date confusion. For that reason, we generally name the rally threads dates like "Nov. 11th thru 12th", "Oct. 31st thru Nov. 7th", etc.

Be careful, programmers might get Oct. 31 and Dec. 25 confused with that naming scheme!

Think of 31oct = 25dec or for 'programming historians': Halloween = Christmas Day.

I get that they equal but if you use anything else it solves that problem, at least in the english language.

This somehow reminds me of the U.S. Billion vs. the Euro Billion discussion way back a few years ago:

Billion is a bit fuzzy: it is defined as 10e9 on short scale, while it is equal to 1e12 on long scale. That's why I prefer not to use this word.

I should say it is a bit fuzzy but it shouldn't be. Regardless of whether you are using the U.S. or Euro version, billion short scale is 1e9 not 10e9.

It makes me laugh when Americans say, 'I just love your English accent.'
We don't have accents, everyone else does! We all speaks proper like what Her Maj does.
And I have confirmed with my 5" reflector that Crawley is indeed located almost exactly at the centre of the universe, what with Greenwich being just down the road and all.

Seriously, it surprises me that the dd/mm/yyyy v. mm/dd/yyyy issue still causes problems. I sometimes pause when I have to fill in an important form and have to assume they mean dd/mm/yyyy; wondering if the other way has reached our shores yet. We need a global standard. Or better forms.

We have standards, they're just not widely used (depending on the context), so I'd say we need better forms.

Correct. After using "dd.mm.yyyy" (German-like) and "yyyy/mm/dd" I decided to use the ISO-norm with "yyyy-mm-dd" on my rieselprime-pages 3 years ago.
