Default My first CPU to surpass 70,000 GhzDays

My i5-3570K took about 7 years.

At about the same time my i7-7820x CPU surpassed 25,000 GhzDays in 1 year.

And my RTX-2080Ti GPU surpassed 1.5Million in 1 year.
That got me to 5th place for TF for the year and 9th Lifetime.
and 8th overall for the year and 15th overall Lifetime.

That should be close to 24/7 work, isn`t it?
Are the fans coping?
I had a gtx560ti whose fans gave out the blue smoke after ~ 2 years of hard work (not 24/7, tho).
Note: I'm not meaning to scare you, just curious... 😜

I have always run all my computers and all my GPUs (3 to date) 100% 24/7.
Some CPUs OC'd a little.

Some old P IV's blew some capacitors a dozen years ago.
My 970 GPU had sticky fan issues.

Other than that no problems.

Some I know who disliked (a stronger word, hated is probably more appropriate here) measure theory moved from tier 1 to tier 3 phd program just to avoid the analysis quals after failing it twice.

Cool A dream come true

Five months ago I started my tech blog at Moreware.
I'm happy to announce that we reached 120,000 views from 120 distinct States in less than 150 days, and with no advertising whatsoever.

The blog deals with single board computers, Arduino projects, electronic prototyping, ARM, RISC-V and MIPS processors. And Computer Science.

You are kindly invited to visit it: there is a "English language" category if Italian language scares you .
You are also invited to collaborate, if you have information to share or probes to advertise (shameless plug).

As my other websites, everything is actually based on personal effort and unlimited passion. And this surely pays (obviously as long as it comes to self-esteem).

Thank you for sharing the news.

Default The Expanse Session 4 released!

Session 4 of The Expanse just "dropped".

IMO, the best "hard sci-fi" books and show since Babylon 5.

Now I just need to find the time to wach it...

Glad to see that I'm not alone on Babylon 5. Some of my sci-fi friends don't like B5 because it is a serial (space opera in some minds). The last season lacks a little because TNT took to long to renew the last season. It might have fared better on SyFy than TNT, but SyFy wasn't in a place where it could support a show of that nature. I can only imagine how much better it would have been in HD.

I'll have to find the time to watch the Expanse now that I've heard the comparison.

We just acquired one of the components for our post-move, reconfigured music studio.
https://www.microcenter.com/product/...sktop-computer
i78700k
16GiB 3200 MHz RAM
500 GiB M.2 NVMe SSD,
2 available RAM slots
2 available 3.5" HDD mounts
This will be paired with a multi-channel USB digital audio interface and DAW software for recording and mixing. It will tie in with the various mixers, instruments, and effect units we already have

We also expect this to be our household jukebox; feeding music to various parts of the apartment via Ethernet, WiFi or Blue Tooth.

Now we just have to unpack and sort the contents of enough boxes to find vital components we have yet to see since the move.

Edit: No discreet GPU, but 'coincidentally', a nice P95 worker.

Default 2080Ti makes a difference.

I joined GIMPS in 2004 with one P-II and one P-IV.
That year I got my first 373 GhzDays

I have now completed my 16th full year with a little bigger hardware including one 2080Ti GPU.
In 2019 I got a total of just shy of 1.8Million GhzDays;
which is more than the grand total of all GhzDays I accumulated from 2004 to the end of 2018 (which, by the way included 1 month with the 2080Ti).
