Could we please please have back the old color scheme ? At least if you insist on this scheme make it available as a new named scheme, so that we can chose to use the old one if we want.

Board Style: subSilver and darkAngel - or somesuch

That is the plan... I just need to get some feedback on this scheme while I learn to set it up for multiple templates...

I think I will have it fixed in a few hours... I have a few other templates to add first...

Warning feedback ahead: Personally I'm not too keen on the new colors... I liked it the other way myself.

Anyway just my $ 2 x 10^-2

I think Tasuke may be the only person who will like this color scheme wink

Anyways, as xyzzy said he is working on letting us pick our own color scheme.

The reason I ask, is that I find it hard to read.

If you make a new style, play around with the fonts a bit, so that they become a bit easier to read. Not all of us are in our first youth :) any longer. My eyes are not what they used to be.....

What happened is I fell asleep at the desk last night working on these templates... I had intended to work on these while nobody was using the board... Anyways, I woke up this morning and my email box is full of hate mail... :)

You should be able to choose from different templates now... I am now working on setting which one will be the default...

Eventually, I'd like to have a poll to choose the best one for the default one... I personally think subTrail is the best for this, since subSilver is the regular default and every BBS in the world uses it...

The larger issue is do we install a lot of templates and give the users a choice or keep things simple and just use one... I have been wrestling with this issue for several days now and if anyone has some feedback I'd appreciate it... I just don't know how important multiple templates are to people...

One bad thing is by having a lot of color schemes it makes it harder to design graphics and avatars and stuff like that... Fow example, the black background really tears up avatars that use transparency...

I'm leaning towards installing 10 or so templates and letting everyone play with them for a week or so, and then having a poll to choose the one for us...

If anyone thinks having multiple templates available all the time is a good idea, make your case here...

Also, let me know which ones from that link above that you want me to install for you all to play with...

There could be a reason for this :). Actually trying to be different just for the sake of it is not a good idea. BUT to let people have a lot of choice is a VERY GOOD idea.

It doesn't add one bit to functionality, but it adds to the usability, seen from each users' perspective and that is a good thing.

Personally I would suggest that we keep subSilver as the default.

I'll keep that in mind...

What I am doing right now is looking to see how these templates affect my ability to tweak the appearance of the BBS... For example, I just removed the logo from the upper left corner temporarily... To do this I had to edit each template individually, which is a bit of a pain... Maybe after awhile everyone will come to a consensus on which template is best overall and we can use that one...

I'm experimenting with removing the logo to see if we can make the page viewable at 640x480... I realize that most people have larger monitors, but I'd hate for someone to not be able to visit us because their monitor is too small... Apparently the logo adds a lot of width to the page and people with smaller monitors have to scroll horizontally, which is a real pain...

Anyways, my only goal is readability... Obviously the black screen is not the best choice... I've already received a lot of feedback via email and it seems most people are happy with subSilver or subTrail...

Anyways, understand that I have no intention for this BBS to become overloaded with fancy graphics or weird templates... Readability is my goal and so is simplicity... I feel letting the user have a choice is important, too, but not to the point where it interferes with my ability to provide support...

Probably the best solution is to let everyone play with the templates for a few days and then we can vote for the best one...
