Default Adding New Candidates

There seems to be interest in opening a new range of exponents. In the past we have used a silly little rule to balance between more work on existing candidates and new candidates. We haven't discussed how this will work now that we have GPU ranges and CPU ranges. I propose that we apply the rule to the GPU range, and that opening a new range means converting the CPU range to GPU and opening a new CPU range.

If my counting is correct, we could open a new range now.

Code:
Bits Target Actual
        >=       >=
81 15 19
80 30 34
79 60 76
78 all 103
If this meets with approval, all current candidates will become available for GPU after Luigi and I add the candidates to 3321936000 for CPU.

I would say yes - open up more ranges.

When you open up a new range I hope you take into consideration some of the work that was done outside of the official release of candidates.

See my posting here.

It is ok for me.

Grant, I have the OBD status created by Uncwilly and updated by several friends in the forum, I will add your ranges before releasing the new range.

Luigi,

I, too, have a "private" range offered by Uncwilly a few months back. It's in the 3321936xxx range. Do you have the info on that? If not, I can send it to you.

I should have some of your published results, but feel free to PM me your list so that I'll do the needed adjustments.

Wondered if anyone else noted that the OBD web page cites the same number as the 11smooth web site?
Also, did 11smooth complete, since the last apparent activity is 2009?

Elevensmooth was the first distributed computing project I ran. I expected Operation Billion Digits to be a short lived lark, and hosted a page for it inside the Elevensmooth site. I've since run the the oddperfect.org site, and I don't have the time to properly support all of this.

The Elevensmooth work sputters along under benign neglect, mostly through ECM by yoyo@home. The machine running it's ECM server died just before I started a year abroad and hasn't been restored yet. The machine running oddperfect.org's ECM servers died just after the year abroad, and hasn't been restored yet, either. Given the scarce amount of unallocated time and my present priorities, this is unlikely to change before the autumn, if ever.
