Default priority for LLRnet port 8000!

Announcements suck because we can't respond.

I just tossed on 2 Quads to assist.

Quote:
Hi all,

By my rough estimates, we are set to finish up port 8000 LLRnet either late on the 16th or early on the 17th. The problem with that is, I am leaving on vacation very, very early in the morning of the 17th--so I wouldn't be able to process the results until after I get back from vacation. Thus, I am asking all the participants of NPLB to throw all their internet-connected resources on port 8000 if at all possible until it is dried out. With an extra push like that, we should be able to get the server finished at least by mid-day tomorrow (EDT), if not earlier, which will mean that I'll have enough time to get the results processed and sent in to Gary before I leave for vacation. (And no, I can't stay up late on the 16th to do them, because I have to get up at 4:30 AM on the 17th. )

I have one core on port 8000 right now; unfortunately I cannot put the other core on it too, because that would mean taking it off of an extremely high priority re-do range (a lower range from the 1st Drive that we don't have any results for) that I'm also rushing to get done before my vacation.

So, if all of you could do one huge push on port 8000 until it's dried out, I would be very grateful.

Anon

10 PM EDT on the 16th is the deadline. Or 2008-04-17 2:00:00 GMT if you prefer. It's 9 PM my time (CDT)

Well, we're on a roll again--let's hope we can make up for the lost time and still get it done in time. Only about 2K more to go.

BTW, sorry about the whole announcement thing--I probably should have posted it as just a regular sticky thread. (Hey, at least the announcement thing is a little more attention-grabbing than just a regular sticky thread. )

I just ran some quick calcuations to try to estimate when we can get the server dried out--and I came up with 6 AM tomorrow morning EDT (10 AM GMT). (I'll be leaving the house at ~5 AM EDT, so I wouldn't even be able to scramble and get it done right before I leave.)

So, we either have to massively increase what we've got on port 8000 ASAP (not too feasible--if only Beyond's machines weren't locked up with stress testing!), or just wait until I get back from vacation to have the results processed. Gary, would it be a problem if the results had to wait until the 20th? It looks like they may have to, given the looks of things.

Oh yeah, duh--I don't know why I didn't think of that! Okay, that will work out great. We won't have to have had the server dried out yesterday, and you can just process the results and send them to Gary as soon as the server's dried.

Okay all--you guys can now relax a little on port 8000 (if you want to, of course ).

It's cool if the results wait until you get back. I put it on priority because it was an open range much lower than port 5000 but did not envision getting it done before you left. The fact that we are coming close has amazed me. Carlos hasn't filled in up to n=425K completely yet so I can't report anything to Primesearch.

I'm a little bummed that we only have one prime in the entire range so far. There has been a lot of horsepower on it!

Thanks everyone for contributing! I wish I had most of my 6 new quads that will be shipped Thurs. on it. That probably would have done it.

No problem, Karsten will be able to process the results in my absence.

As for only having one prime in the entire range: maybe a lot of people just didn't notice they had primes found? I haven't been able to check the results files for port 8000 for primes yet, so I don't know. When Karsten sends you the results, though, it should be quite easy to tell all the primes in the range.

I have been checking the results files on Ironbits site all along. As of 2:45 PM GMT Weds., there was only the one prime that Karsten reported.
