Default Re: Primality Proof Improvements

The software is already very very efficient. There is work being done to make the P-1 test quicker. This will help speed the total throughput of the project.

You have been asking a lot of questions that you could have found the answers too by reading through old threads. Please look around and read. Also use the forum's search function. If the search function does not give good results, try using your favourite search engine and limiting it to results from the forum.

Read more, post less. You can't possibly think you're the first person with all these questions to appear on this forum. Forums like this exist as a store of wisdom and information- try taking advantage of that by reading old threads in subtopics that match your interests.

Default Update to Prime Processing Question

I realize I should search the forum first but I'm not sure search term to use. I have a simple question about my prime exponent assignments. I have multiple computers that I am running Prime95.exe on and the progress reported is different from the actual value of the progress:

1) What does the keyboard have to do with anything?
2) Where do you see a discrepancy?

What I see is that you have 2 workers running 2 different exponents. They each are doing their thing. Don't expect them to stay in sync. 1 of them will typically run faster than the other for a number of reasons.

And if you are looking at your status on PrimeNet, it will of course be running behind what you see on your local machine. PrimeNet only gets the updates from your machine maybe once a day. Also, you get no credit until the test is complete.

If this is not a laptop, what sort of CPU cooler do you have? Case fans?
Are you running gpuowl on your GPU?

Why is core 6 so much slower than the rest?
That could be slowing one of the prieme95 workers.
I find it clearer if each worker has its own sub window in theprime95 GUI display, rather than merged.
Typically the comm window shows time-averaged ETAs, while worker window(s) show ETAs based on the last interval between displays, which fluctuates more rapidly, especially when the computer is used for other things also, stealing cycles away from prime95, irregularly, as by user interaction; web browsing, video playing etc.

My suggestion would be to not use core #6. See what you can do with the other cores.

my two cents

Default SuperComputer Marshall University Big Green Cent OS low Internet Connectivity Server Running Prime 9

I am part of a university that has a supercomputer called Big Green and I would like to run GIMPS on it.
Unfortunately, the program requires access to the Internet and the supercomputer does not have access to it.
I am wondering if there is a way to run GIMPS on a supercomputer and if there are any guides for installing the program on a program that runs Cent OS.
I am wondering where I can find resources for running GIMPs on a big computer.
The machine has a webpage: https://www.marshall.edu/it/services...green-cluster/

You will need mprime (Prime95 for Linux) and run instances of it distributed over Big Green. However, you will have to use the manual system of reservation, reporting results and uploading certificates. Get scripting!
