FWIW I don't take seriously the notion that a nuclear war would create a neutrino flux anywhere near the magnitude of the flux from a "too close" supernova.

Perhaps, perhaps not. For the time being, there are no SN candidates which are anywhere near to being to close.

The time signature would be very different. A SN releases its first intense burst of neutrinos within a minute or so It is implausible in the extreme that a global strategic exchange would be synchronized that closely.
