Exclamation Attention possible llrnet server problem

Attention:
Please check if your clients can contact the llrnet server at the moment.
The statistics informations says that there have not ben any results since 16:29.
This make me suspect that the llrnet server has stopped to respond.
(But not crashed as else a cron job would already have restartet it)

If there is really a problem there is nothing i can do before friday evening.

You can try to reach the beta server instead:

server="www.beta.psp-project.de"
port=12994

This server runs seven different k<1000000 for which also primes are searched.
If you do so please use an llrnet client in a differnt directory then the client running the PSP project.

If there is really a problem with the server i will set the timeout value much higher before restarting the server so that everybody can points for his work.

Sorry for the problems and i hope you come back to the project.

The application ist really not responding anymore.
It has run for nearly 5 months without any problems.
I will be at home friday around 23:00 earliest. ( Very late flight back from Lichtenstein to Germany. )

The beta server is still running so there is no problem with the machine itself or with the mysql DB.
So it looks like the main llrnet server has some internal problem that leads to not responding to requests anymore.
Can anyone make one aditional test please:
In the onfiguration for the main llrnet server change the server entry to:
server="www.psp-project.de"

For the people changing over to the beta server there are also stats available.

http://www.beta.psp-project.de/stats.html

and

http://www.beta.psp-project.de/llrnetstats.php

Sorry for all the problems we have at the moment,

Lars

Whether I use "pspnet.no-ip.info" or "www.psp-project.de" I get the same thing -- a successfully connected to server message, but the program just seems to hang at that point.

There is a reason why this happened while you are out of town. It is called Murphy's Law.

With the original server, I keep getting:

Successfully connected to server!
Could not log on to the server
LOGGING OUT

Since there isn't any work client is sleeping.

Using server="www.psp-project.de" I am getting the same message. I didn't want to go through all that trouble to go to beta server but I can if you want me to.

Thanks

Bill

Things should be sorted out in the next 24 hrs. So if you do not mind, letting your computer sit idle, there is no need to go with the beta project.

Server is up again.
The reason for the problems seem to be on the side of my provider.
They started to do some work on their server farm to add some more features
to their systems.

I tried to look at the server before doing a restart but i was not able to access the machine with SSH and also not with the plesk software which is also used for remote manipulations of the server.

I had to force a reboot.

After that everything was running again without any problems.

It looks like it was pure luck that the html and the beta server port still worked.

Bad news we have not found any primes while i was away.
Bad news 2: i will be out of town from tuesday to friday once more.
I hope they do not fiddle around with the server once more.

I will import all the manual result i received this weekend.

Thanks for all your patience.

Due to the fact that i had to restart the server before i had a chance to edit the timeout value there is a chance that some pairs are handed out a second time. If this is really the case the returned results will be counted as double checks.
The timeout is now set to 28 days and will stay with this value for the next months.

Some more Informations.

I scanned the logs and found that around the time of the crash there was also an atempt to hack the machine by trying to login into ssh.
The access was allways refused but i have to check if that had negative influence to the stability of the system.
