Mag 4.4 in La Palma, the strongest of five >= 4.0 since the eruption started.

People living in our house report rattling windows, etc, but no damage.

I don't get out of bed for anything less than a 5.5. And even then in bed with the covers over one's head is generally the best place to remain if one is in bed when it strikes.

A 4.5 occurred overnight. This one was quite deep at 37km. More detail at https://www.eldiario.es/canariasahor...1_8394252.html

I wouldn't get out of bed for a 4.5 either. The significance is that quakes are generally becoming stronger, more frequent (56 between midnight and 07:15 today) and shallower. The last time that happened a volcano started up within a few days. The largest pre-eruption was only 3.8 IIRC.

People are now wondering whether the new quakes signify the crust relaxing after putting a few megatonnes of lava on the surface or whether a new stream of magma is on the way up. Consensus seems to be that the former is more likely but the population is naturally worried. Most Palmeran eruptions run for a month or few. This one is now coming up to four weeks.

Another chunk of the island, about 4km from where we live, has been evacuated because of a north-westerly flowing lava stream.
