I'm without a computer to crunch on at the moment.(This one is a loaner, and I am not allowed to install anything on it). But this situation will change within the next 2-3 weeks when I get my birthday computer.
When I get my computer, I am interested in attempting the less popular prime finding records, like arithmetic progressions for instance. Because of this, I have a strong desire to learn how to edit text files with computer programs. For instance, there's a project called Riesel Base-4 on these forums(it only has a thread), so those people have a need to take all the odd-numbered n's out so they don't waste time. I am interested in learning some simple programming tricks so I can do this. I can compile software if I have to.(obviously not until I get my computer) What would be really nice is if I could do everything in DOS. I have no idea what search terms to use, but if people could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. |

I suggest you look for 'grep' and 'sed' . There are clones of these utilities for every operating system, and they are what I use to edit large newpgen and similar files.
