which linux client should I use? static or dynamic linked one?

Which one would be faster? or it doesn't matter?

I'm running a gentoo linux box whose kernel version is 2.4.20.

Looks like I should change to the dynamically linked one for better performence.

So just unzip the new executable file into the same directory of the old static one, and run it from there, or I should do some special to avoid the earlier work from lost??
