Would anyone be willing to transfer all of the Sierpinski bases up to 1500 in to a Google Spreadsheet for me?
I'm warning you now that this is going to sound harsh.

Please do not start such a project. CRUS has enough work to keep everyone on the forum busy for the rest of their lives. I strongly suggest not giving users more choices than they already have. Gary and those of us who have spent an inordinate amount of time on CRUS over the years do not need an "extended" project to steal resources from this project. In fact such a suggestion could severely hurt CRUS, not just because people will leave CRUS to work on yours but also because they will feel that the goals of such a search are arbitrary. Gary fought pretty heavily to prevent CRUS from going as high as b=1030. Unfortunately he lost that battle. I suspect that CRUS could have proven a number of other bases below b<=512 if the project had stopped there.

2012-11-25, 20:55 #19 gd_barnes     May 2007 Kansas; USA 3×7×487 Posts I wouldn't quite state it so harshly but the essence of what Mark (rogue) states is correct. I didn't really fight very hard to keep the project from expanding to base 1030. I just griped incessently if people worked on too many small-conjectured bases at once...in other words implying that I wasn't particularly happy with the project expanding too rapidly. People are welcome to start their own projects but I can promise, it is always a lot more work than they anticipate ahead of time. Besides maintaining web pages and various postings, there is a lot of up front work in providing proper instructions and links to software. There's also garnering interest by "advertising" at different places. Pokerspeed, if you want to work on bases > 1030, feel free to coordinate with others on such an effort in the bases > 1030 thread. I am moving these posts to that thread. Gary
2012-11-25, 21:59 #20 MyDogBuster     May 2008 Wilmington, DE 22×23×31 Posts I have to agree with what Mark and Gary stated. I have puttered around doing bases 1100-1200 for a few years now and it wasn't fun. As the bases get higher, the times get longer. Even the scripting gets longer because almost every n is tested. I don't work on it anymore because it just became boring. There is enough work to keep more than just the current participants busy for many many years on CRUS < b1030. I don't even think we can get all the bases started (to 2.5K) in the next 100 years. If anyone wants to do bases > 1030, be my guest. I just don't think the admins want any more work than we currently have. I'll probable leave my work on 1100-1200 to Gary as a present. He can do with it as he pleases.

It doesn't list bases that haven't been started or those that have been partially done, e.g. R3/S3, so if you want to work on other bases, you would have to look at one of the other pages.
2012-11-25, 23:16 #22 f1pokerspeed   Jun 2012 2·53 Posts @ Rogue - I used that page when selecting the work that I was going to do - however, none of the work is particularly "easy" - at least, by my definition. I have a webpage set up and all of the management stuff could be done by me - meaning that you guys wouldn't have to do any of the sorting work. I can make reservation forms and handle everything myself each day as I find the time to do so. It's not something that I would just throw on you guys, what with me being all new to this. If anything, I think the best way to move forward here is for me to trial this with the workers for a week or something and see how we go. If it turns out well, then maybe I could continue the project in my own free time (lacking, but still available).
