Hi Mersenne Forum,
The 2017 eclipse is one month away. (depending on where you are and when you read this) I agree with previous posters who add emphasis to the advice not to stare directly at the sun. $2 sun goggles are availabel here in Oregon USA. Keep looking up. Also, keep running those computers to find big numbers. For what it's worth Regards, Matt |

I plan to travel to Madras, Oregon, to attend the Oregon Solarfest and view the eclipse.

We plan to be in Perryville, MO for the eclipse.
If anyone else is in that area let us know! ![]() |

Edit: Looks like it's not that far, maybe 50km, but that's still pretty far.... Last fiddled with by Dubslow on 2017-08-14 at 07:58 |

Actually, this is perhaps somewhat later than it should have been, but anyone know the best way to get eclipse glasses? I'm wholly ignorant on the nature of practical/hobbyist astronomy (and especially on our local astrum).

At this stage, I would suggest you check with your local science museum, or the like. Or call your local astronomy club (they may have a small stockpile.)
3 sites that I looked at (Astronomy magazine, Great American Eclipse, and Astronomy Society of the Pacific) are sold out. You may want to try Amazon, but the prices they are asking for are super premium. ![]() |

And just in case you're one of the 3 or 4 people that haven't seen/heard this:

I received my eclipse glasses in two days using Amazon Prime. But be sure that they are ISO approved to be safe:

Get to work on a pinhole rig. I also heard that the gaps between the leaves of trees project many solar images on the ground.
FWIW- Chicago Public Libraries were giving glasses away. The main Harold Washington library ran out of 2000 pairs in about three hours |
