Default Perhaps the independent LMHs should claim ranges?

Hello fellow independent LMHers...

Just putting this out there for discussion...

We have less than a month's worth of 63 -> 64 "bit" factoring work left below 1B (other than below, of course, 9M).

We seem to have been well behaved towards each other, but for the next little bit there's a chance we'll "step on each other's toes".

I note that "linded" and "HBendtz" are both working up in the 900M - 1B range.

I myself, "linded" and "lindee" are currently working the 800M - 900M range.

"monst" is currently working in the 702M range, although taking the exponents up to 65.

I, additionally, also have a small percentage of my cluster working in the 500M to 700M range.

I would like to officially claim what remains in 525M - 538M, 680M - 700M, 730M - 750M and 800M - 840M which are still at 63 "bits".

Comments? Thoughts? Feedback?

I would like to claim all assignments above 840M from 63 to 64 bits for myself and linded (excepting the assignments HBendtz or others reserve through PrimeNet).

I have a lone P3 happily crunching away in the 740M-741M range, at like 0.04M/week.

Otherwise, there's little useful work for that machine these days, so I'd like to keep the range. Exponent reservation has started.

I'll leave that range alone when I pass through.

Any other ranges which anyone wants left alone, just say so. I'll post here when the above ranges are completed, "reserving" some more.

Thanks

Not much in GIMPS, anyway. If you decide to look afield when the GIMPS work runs out, I've got some small machines running ECM at 11M on 230 digit numbers. The survivors go to yoyo@home at 43M then to RSALS for SNFS factoring by BIONC users. Sometimes I have to draft yoyo@home for the 11M work because the small machines cannot keep up - I'd welcome the assistance of your lone P3.

Or, perhaps (just putting this out there) this (and other) slow and inefficient machine(s) should be brought off-line and retired; given a glorious funeral after years of dedicated (if slow and inefficient) work....

(Unless, of course, they are also serving as space heaters, file servers, routers, etc.)

Default Something to consider....help required elsewhere..

The main sub-discussion starts at post 307 or so.

In a nutshell DC continues to fall farther and farther behind LL (several years). Maybe when the TF quest to 64 bits is complete and if some of you were so inclined to consider moving your big farms from TF to DC for a while the project would benefit much.

... or given to a charity which can route them to groups just needing basic processing.

Now that is an excellent idea!!! Much better than mine.

They would then be doing something truly worthwhile, and could continue to contribute to GIMPS as they did so.

OK, the above ranges will be completed within the next two days.

I would like to next reserve 710M to 730M and 650M to 680M.

Just noticed you were working in the 176-177M ranges....
I was kindof hoping you would leave the 100M range to those will small PCs....cause once sub-64 TF are gone many 32-bit architecture PCs thruput will drop in half.
