Greensburg, Kansas. May 4, 2007. A community of less than 1,000 people was scrubbed to the ground by an F5 tornado. There were 11 fatalities. Very little was salvageable. This event drew a lot of national attention. Bush 43 went there to see for himself.
The town was rebuilt utilizing as much renewable energy as there was available It is considered a model "green" community. The link above is to the community website. A short video on the front page shows how far they have come since.
