Do you have /usr/local/lib in your ${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}? I ran into the exact same problem, which was fixed by putting the line
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATHinto my .bashrc
