Oddly enough, one of my assigned LL exponents (47570227) was just factored. Can I remove it from my work-to-do file and get a new assignment without any "penalty" for not reporting a result?

Sam has seen the light

Sam Wagstaff's latest "Who is factoring which number now" page shows 2,2158M is now reserved by NFS@Home.

It's been long enough

I don't know why Sam would show 2,2158M still reserved after more than eight years (!) But I will attempt to channel RDS and say "Just add it to your list and put it out of my misery!"

Thanks, Mark! My local settings were for all double checks but the server had 6 cores set to "whatever makes sense". I updated to double checks for all. But this still leaves the question why the...

No joy. I stopped Prime95, edited local.txt as suggested, restarted, and was given an immediate first-time LL test. Either the Mac OS X version has a bug, or the server has a bug, or I'm missing...

I'm not sure this is the right thread for this but here goes:

I recently updated my old Mac Pro (2009 Xeon, 2 Processors, 4 cores per, total 8 cores) to v 28.9 from version 27.9. Since it's so...

Wouldn't this occur if they set up their worktodo file to do ECM on F12 but didn't include the list (or product) of known factors? (Reminds me of the old engineers joke: as a last resort, read the...

This seems ... unlikely. Huge hint: for a given odd prime q, the order of 2 mod q is unique.

Just an aside, but if the sieving process is eliminating factors, then it needs to be fixed. The sieve should be configured such that no sieve prime p crosses out any number less than p^2.

Suppose q is a prime factor of 2^(p^2)-1 where p is an odd prime and d is the order of 2 mod q. Since d must divide p^2, then the only possibilities are d=p or d=p^2. When d=p, q divides 2^p-1, which...

I see my error; the condition wasn't k odd but k=+/-1 mod 6. Then the unique representation of a prime N = 3*(k^2)*2^n+1 (n even) in the form A^2 + 3*B^2 will have A=1 and B=k*2^(n/2). When k is not...

I believe that some time back in the 1980's or early 90's Hiromi Suyama noticed that Morehead's Theorem (as quoted by Gallot above) extends to any prime of the form 3*(k^2)*2^n + 1 with n even and k...
